Reviews about our camps

Tuakau , Franklin

We are writing this as a letter of reference and also as a big letter of thanks to all the staff and owners of Tui Glen Farm. We have custody of our 9 year old grandson, and also own and run a very full on business, we needed somewhere for our grandson to go in the school holidays that we would feel comfortable with, on the recommendation of my 22 year old niece who had spent many a holiday at Tui Glen we thought we would try him there. He had been to several well known camps, but he definitely was not happy with returning to them. His first stay at Tui Glen was a bit unsettling for him, as he takes quite awhile to adjust to new situations, but the staff at Tui Glen were amazing, they took him under their wing and made him feel like he had never left home, something which we never saw at the big corporate run Camps. He did get very homesick the first time, but the staff managed to divert his feeling of homesickness in other directions where required, and also made him feel very safe at night which he sometimes has a problem with.

His second and consequent visits to Tui Glen have been an event which our grandson looks forward to immensely; he has grown in confidence with his independence, and most of all in his feeling of well being, when he is not with us. Tui Glen farm is a very homely Camp, where the children are assigned chores and the care of the animals, which has instilled into him a sense of maturity, and responsibility. Pauline and all her staff should be very proud of what they have in Tui Glen, a no nonsense, but fun filled time for the children.

The highest accolade that I could give Pauline and Tui Glen Farm is that our grandson is always asking when is the next holiday is so he can go back to Tui Glen. We would not have any qualms about recommending Pauline or Tui Glen Farm to any prospective parents that wish to enrol their child there.

Yours Sincerely

Re: Tui Glen Farm, Kawerau

I feel incredibly fortunate to have this farm/riding school to send my daughter to in the school holidays. I believe it gives her a genuine “kiwi farming” experience that so many children are missing out on in today’s busy lifestyle.

As well as gaining much confidence with her horse riding, my daughter gets to experience other camp and farming activities, such as helping with the chores, swimming in the river, sitting around a bonfire and generally being responsible for her role within a group of people.

Currently, I don’t know of another facility that offers the same sort of experience. Pauline and her team have managed to create an environment that is professionally run (with high standards) and yet is relaxed and down to earth. It is a credit to their passion for people, animals and nature.

We plan to be coming to Tui Glen for quite a few years yet!

To Whom It May Concern

My name is Maddy and I am twelve years old. I go to Southwell School in Hamilton. I have been going to Tui Glen for the last three years in my school holidays.

Tui Glen has really opened my eyes to the equestrian world. Before the camp all I thought was that a horse lived in a paddock and I could ride it. Tui Glen taught me that you have to work on a horse not always play. I learnt how to look after a horse as if it was my own. I now have my own horse and it is thanks to Tui Glen that I have such confidence in looking after it myself.

I don’t know how many friends and other people I have told about the camp. It is my joy to go there every holiday. I am proud of what I have learnt there and most importantly for me, I feel like I am part of their family. The horses are now familiar to me and also the camp leaders. Pauline is my idol and I admire her with all my heart for all the work she has done. Without her there most likely wouldn’t be a Tui Glen.

Thank You
